Will Kirby's Summary

As I flew over Jamaican soil I thought about how nice it was going to be to be in another country. It really was a tropical island. Everything about Jamaica was different. The weather, the plants, the roads; everything. We took a long ride to our hotel, Samsara, in Negril. We walked in and got situated into our rooms. The path to the room was wet from the rain and surrounded by plants. We came up to conical shaped hut-ish house.

Anne's Summary

Jamaica was a truly eye opening experience. When going to a new country for the first time, Jamaica was the perfect place. I learned so much from the trip I don’t know where to start. Having the opportunity to be with a person who knows the place well (Mr. Burke) I really got the feel of the culture. For example, the mango festival was an authentic Jamaican event and I got a sense of the Jamaican culture when I was there. Every other place we went I felt like my eyes were opened to a totally different part of this world.

Matt Eschbach Summary

The first thing that hit me when I walked out the airport door in Montego Bay (besides the wave of heat) was the shock of such a different place.  It was the unfamiliar.  I'll admit that I was pushed out of my comfort zone.  I did not enjoy the smoke filled air as people waited for their taxis or the seeming radical driving techniques at use.  I definitely did not expect the little girl to defecate outside our car at the stop light.  It was awkward to see her, dressed in western clothing, doing something so outrageously far from our customs.

Brandon Richards' Summary

I think that it was a great experience helping out the Sheffield All Ages School with its computer lab. We learned about many things in Jamaica like their culture and how they lived and also what they did in their spare time. We learned about how tourism is the main economy there. Their culture there is very laid back and easy going and friendly.

Kathryn Taylor's Summary

Well, Jamaica was amazingly different than how I imagined it to be. For starters, it was 8 million degrees everyday, which is much hotter than here in Washington (67 degrees! A scorcher!).

Kevin Tsang's Summary

It was a great learning experience being in Jamaica to help the Sheffield school set up its computer lab.

Sunday...prep for departure.

We didn't do much on Sunday other than rest...and it's a good thing.

Our last Saturday becomes PC setup and training day!

Finally, with PC's in hand, we manage to get the lab setup...and then goodbye.

We have COMPUTERS!!! And the storm of a life time...

We had some great news, with the computers released, and a little bit of downer in that we couldn't do our graduation for the 9th graders, but the storm was something we will not forget.

Our students as their students...

Today was a milestone for the Tyee group as they spent about 2 hours during the day at the school working, sitting, observing and eating lunch as a Jamaican.
